So I often don’t flush the toilet at night, but only if I pee in it.
If I’m in public, I flush. If I’m taking a dump, I flush. It’s only when I only pee, I’m at home and it’s nighttime is when I don’t flush afterwards.
I do this because it’s often loud and I don’t want to annoy other people by flushing the toilet.
If you're the only one who uses said toilet, then suit yourself if you don't flush it after use even though it's still fucking disgusting. However, if other people at home also share and use that same toilet but you didn't flush, you are a piece of shit who deserve to get your unflushed shit flung right to your face by others.
look from what I can tell this is something you should ask the people you live with (I think you mentioned you do live with others). ask the people that share the toilet if they mind. personally even in public if a toilet just has some urine in it and is otherwise clean, just flush it, it's not that gross. unpleasant sure. it'd matter even less if it's close family/relatives. in addition, consider investing in one of those dual flush systems (with a smaller/quieter flush option).

Yeah I don't flush when I pee at night either. No one in my family does, it's unnecessary to wake someone else who is a light sleeper.
Well, it's better than poop. My ex husband was a very habitual person. Before he took a shower he would shit, and for whatever reason would not flush until after he showered. He would poop, put the lid down and put his clothes on top. Once in a while he'd forget to flush after his shower and then I'd do go in to find it. He always left the lid down, so it was just such a lovely surprise. It was rancid and putrid. It wasnt any better that every time he shit, it was loud and sounded like explosives. Like, at least try to hush your hiney hole a little, jeez.
That's my story.
I believe the not flushing until after the shower may have been simply to not effect the water temperature when turning the shower on and adjusting it birdy. The loud anus hole defies explanations
I do that sometimes and I honestly forget to flush it afterwards, cause in 99% of times whenever I'm done pooping I flush thus I dont need to check it. In this 1% i dont flush before a shower so it doesnt fuck with the tempeture. So I just forget.
I thought that's why he might do it, but you only have to wait like 10 seconds for it to stop running. I would cringe every time he pooped. It was so gnarly. I'm glad those days are over.

Had a friend who told me their home was mellow yellow. If it’s yellow it’s mellow, otherwise flush it. But I always flush. Peeing on pee could splash more pee. Plus it stains the porcelain

I never flush the toilet from pissing until the morning. If its daytime I flush.
I'd be more annoyed waking up in the morning to a toilet full of someone else's piss than having to listen to a flush sound for 20 seconds.
Sometimes if I'm still half asleep ill forget to flush after taking a late night piss.

My wife is Dutch, and she has an deeply ingrained habit of not flushing if she gets up to pee in the night. I've told her that it really doesn't bother me in the slightest, but she sticks to her habit, and I don't find discovering an unflushed toilet in the morning so disgusting that I want to make a big deal out of it.
As with most things when you live with others, what a bunch of random internet people think about your practice matters far less than finding out what works best for you and your co-inhabitants and maintaining domestic harmony.
I share one bathroom with a family of 5 and everyone except me doesn't flush the toilet when they pee at night so they don't disturb other people. I don't mind it but I flush anyway.
