Is it normal that i missed my graduation

Today was my graduation day and I didn't go because I don't have any friends at school and it's always so awkward standing around on my own at events like this and I was also feeling a bit anxious. Should I have gone just because it's a special event? Do you think I will regret not going later?

Dressing up in special clothes, then sitting with a bunch of bored people who wish they were somewhere else while some supposedly important person drones on about how much you've grown and developed, how this is a super-important milestone your life, how you can achieve greatness if you keep to the values you've learned, yada, yada, yada. Then you get your three seconds of very local fame as your name is called out over the PA, and you get handed a piece of paper.

Why go through the tedium of all that if it's not important to you, and it's not important to anyone you care about? "It's the normal thing to do and everyone else does it," is never a valid justification for doing anything.

When I finished university, I didn't go to the ceremony to collect my BSc certificate, and I've never regretted that.

As we evolve ceremonies become less important.

It doesn't matter what you have achieved so much as what you do with what you have achieved.

    One man's opinion.

Mine is in a few weeks. I find it stupid since everyone graduates. Its not even a big accomplishment. You still got even harder and more stressful years of school and work yet to come. The fact that you need to get all dressed up for this crap too. That is pathetic. I don't even like my dress and I can't walk in heals. I'm probably going to sprain my ankle and embarrass myself. Grad is just too overrated.

You should have gotten wasted or stoned or high and then gone to the event.

No biggie. Mine is in a few weeks, and I already know of a bunch of people who aren't going.
