Is it normal that i miss vhs tapes to dvd and streaming media

Is it normal to miss VHS.

Weird, right?

I stream most media I see, but there's just a nostalgia feeling attached to VHS. Sometimes I like the vhs tape better than dvd's because if I watch a dvd before falling asleep, the stupid dvd plays all night long because nobody has smartly created a DVD player that has a sleep timer. I have looked for one!!!
Besides that, there's a lot of old movies on VHS that I've never seen. There's little CGI infestation on these old movies. I like that. I love CGI when it's done well, but sometimes CGI is overkill. So far, I have accumulated quite a few Monty Python tapes. Hilarious!!!

I think that anything that has a physical culture and requires human interaction will always be richer and more fondly remembered than a service that an individual can operate. We're social beings after all.

Lol I remember back in the 90's there were signs at Blockbuster Video that said that. I miss that place.

Haha yes, blockbuster and a local video store that was right up the street from my house. I was there several times a week to rent all the horror flicks they had. I always rewound! It was so annoying when someone didn't have 10 seconds to do so before returning it. But how I miss those days. Sigh... and cassettes and a pencil. Kids these days will never truly know how the two correlate.

I still have a few vhs tapes that I just can't throw away. Like the Last Unicorn and one that my pop-pop recorded from tv of Jason and the Argonauts. Total classics! Relics at this point. I'd buy a vcr just to watch the shit quality of them and reminisce.

Oh man, I watched the Last Unicorn like 5000 times as a kid. I bought it on DVD for my kids but they didn't like it too much :( I don't think I have a single VHS anymore. I never did own very many, I mostly just rented.

I used to have a bunch of cassettes when I was a little kid. I'd like wait for hours for certain songs on the radio to record them. XD I feel old now. Lol

I had cases full of them. I would record off the radio too. Just waiting around for a good tune to come on and run over to hit record. Good shit, man, good shit.

      • I remember late fees. At least we were less lazy back then. We had to physically go to a store to rent movies. I guess the RedBox kiosks that rent dvd's is similar. I never use RedBox. I just stream movies. I still buy VHS if something's rare.

I agree about being less lazy. I remember going to Blockbuster or Pine Hollow Video after school and getting videos. I liked browsing the store and seeing what they had. The fact that these places don't exist anymore and that DVD's/videotapes are outdated technology is kind of sad but amazing. I'm happy to have grown up when these places still existed. I do feel about old though

DVD and streaming is much more convenient. If you fall asleep watching your show, it takes two seconds to get to where you you left off on a DVD or streaming service. A VHS you have to spend so much time searching for it. even if you have a sleep timer set, it's not like it's gonna stop at the exact moment you fall asleep.

Hmm. My DVD players go in sleep mode after a few minutes of being idle and so will my TV's. TV's usually have a sleep timer too. I had one DVD player that never slept but it was a really old model.

    Anyway...no, I don't miss tapes one bit.
