I speak as someone who was a very heavy smoker for about twenty years, quit for more than a decade and now vapes.
There seems to be something about how different people's bodies handle nicotine which allows some people to have the occasional cigarette or two and enjoy the buzz, while other people are prone to rapidly become addicted to nicotine. Any addiction is a Bad Thing for all sorts of reasons, and trying something that's known to be habit-forming just to experience it isn't smart.
