Is it normal that i'm fasinated by wasps even though i am afraid of them?

I am afraid of wasps. Not bees, they are less aggressive. I understand the importance of both to the world and by no means wish them to stop existing, but I do have nightmares (I'm a 25yo male so... yeah). With that in mind, is it normal to be absolutely fascinated by them and study up on the wide variety of wasp species? I have read many wikipedia posts and listened to pod casts featuring entomologist Justin Schmidt (look up the Schmidt pain index. OUCH!)
