Is it normal that i'm 23 and alcohol makes me feel horrible for a week after?

When I was 17 to 22, I used to love getting drunk, and especially from 18-19 I used to go out a get wasted woth my mates almost every other weekend. But now, I can't stand it.

Getting drunk, I feel more anxious, less confident, and more locked in to my own head.

Introvert+alcohol does not = extrovert.

If I have at least 5 units of alcohol I will end up worsening my depression and anxiety for a week or more, making me feel worthless and easily emotional. Also it will make me feel generally ill.

And sometimes even one or two units will have this effect for a day or two.

It seems you need to build up more of a tolerance if you want to continue drinking, or else there are many other drugs that you could try.

I'm not being flippant but why don't you just stop drinking?

You yourself say that it's making you feel shitty.

When you're young you can eat & drink what you like and everything is tickety boo.

Then you hit your mid twenties & your body waves the white flag. Hangovers hit you harder & you put on weight much easier. Maybe it's just that that is making you feel worse than you were?

switch to da herb baby. Jk weed is gross.

You could always quit and save dat mula $$$. I quit at 21 and am almost 25 now.

Oh but your question, you know, first off yes totally normal. Of course everyone responds differently, but your case is not an exception. It is common. Alchie has this reputation to be a social lubricant, fun, etc. And sometimes yes it does these things, but basically, alcohol is a depressant. It does not actually help depression, ever, and while it is legal, it comes with so much more weight and ramifications than some illegal substances.

I mean do you, but yeah I never considered myself an alcoholic I just saw the negatives begin to outweigh positives and felt I really had explored the entirety of that drug. You don't need to be an alcoholic to stop.
