  • I enjoy trends as they allow me to buy or sell things at an optimal price.

    • That is definitely an upside to it. I have gotten stuff that is easily 10x the quality of its newer and trendier equivalent, for next to nothing just because it's not the "in" thing anymore.

I actually got a great deal on my house, mostly because the decor is considered very dated (though everything is in excellent condition, and it is very obvious it is all very high quality and was done right). I've been in a lot of newly built/remodeled houses and have seen the offerings of the home stores, and can safely say that my "dated" stuff is light-years higher quality than most of what is offered today (and especially what is popular). My big thing is the cabinetry and woodwork. I have no interest in the particle board crap being passed off as "nice" that seems to be found everywhere these days, including in high dollar homes. If I were to be doing any remodeling, I would absolutely go to one of those places that has a bunch of used house stuff and buy some nice solid wood ones for cheap rather than paying a premium price for new and trendy, yet far lower quality ones. I've never seen particle board anything age well, either.
