Is it normal that i like to drink every night?

Ok so I'm a 21 year old female. I go to college and stuff like that. I started having problems sleeping since like over a month ago. So I started drinking as way to be able to sleep better. But I feel like its becoming more of a habit lately. I dont like binge on wine or beer or anything like that but I drink like every night or close to it. I also noticed that I use alcohol as a way to relax and feel better after a long day of studying. Honestly I think it feels good to be spaced out and I get like the best sleep ever. And I dont know if I'm imagining this but I think I even dream more often now. I just wish I didn't have to wake up so freaking early to take my sister to school. But anyway I just can't sleep without it now. I feel great and all that but I want to know about other people's thoughts so I came on here.

No, I don't think in this case it is. There are some cultures where having a bit of wine or something with dinner is normal, but that's not how you're imbibing it. You're using it as medication and starting to build a dependancy on something that is not medicinal.

If you're having trouble sleeping, try something like melatonin or valerian root instead - natural sleep aids. You don't need a lot, relatively low doses are all that's needed to be effective.

Save the alcohol for weekends or good times, don't build a dependancy on it. You're too young and you're setting yourself up for alcoholism.

It's normal to be insomniac. It's normal for a young woman to want to drink all the time. But you have to watch out! One day you might be a middle-aged alcoholic. I'm a 48-year old man. I deal with this every day.

I hope you stop drinking every night. I moved out to college when i was 21-22, and i started drinking every night because my room mates would do it and they would invite me and it was a lot of fun at the time. i will say what may happen to you, since i myself a 24 year old female, has been through a very similar path.

If you continue to use alcohol to go to sleep you will eventually not be able to sleep without it. you will also very likely start doing (or have already started) other things like coke or other harder drugs, just through the people you meet and through inebriated decision making.

if you continue to drink every day and depending on how much you increase your intake by, then by the time your 24 you will have put on at least an extra 30-40 lbs and you will have twice as many wrinkles; since alcohol dehydrates you and ruins your metabolism over time, and is FULL OF SUGAR. you will also (through heavy drinking) feel more tired and even sore because alcohol is pure poison to your muscles- and to the rest of your body. hangovers will eventually ruin whole days, and you may get too drunk one night by mistake or whatever, and seriously hurt yourself.

because of your constant drinking your body will form a heavy tolerance that will sometimes make you believe you can drink more then you actually can; leading to you blacking out or throwing up and ruining the chances of a fun night. you may even ruin some relationships and even your reputation.

Alcohol also has a very bad comedown, and will give you moody mornings and anxiety filled evenings because of your bodys cravings. you may feel like a drink is what you need to cure your nerves but as soon as that wears down your in the pitiful comedown state, which first starts with a slight headache.
out of all the cravings i have had an alcohol craving is the worst... it hits me the most when i haven't had a drink for 3-4 days, its a very irritating feeling. i hope you never feel it.

    Alcohol is not bad, it can be fun and used safely however it is very easy to abuse, its everywhere in the american society. too much of it means;
    loosing money
    hurting yourself
being at a disadvantage if a dangerous situation arises.

stop drinking everyday while you still don't get the cravings. the longer you take the harder it will be. If you don't control it now it may control you.

your tired? read a book, study, watch a movie, practise your hair styles, do your nails, work out, draw a picture, build something, create something! trust me going to class a little tired is better then not going to class at all because your hungover.

From experience i know that going to class with an hour of sleep is more productive then going to class late, hungover, and in pain- or completely missing class, and trust me you will miss a lot of class if you continue drinking every night. Trust me you may not feel it now but the addiction will creep up on you if you let it. nip it at the bud.

Gotta ease up on it. Soon, you'll be telling yourself "It's only one or two" on your way to class in the morning. Or sneaking one in before a job interview or whatever. Don't get to the point of needing it to function.

Old college roommate had a friend, who I also knew fairly well, who got like that. He'd say "I put one away before class" at 8:30am, got caught trying to take a bottle into the library (which should have been his wake-up moment..if you need to drink at the library..something is wrong), and blew off mid-terms to sit in his room and drink. Yes, he failed out.

Cut it back to weekends, like most people do.

Yeah this isn't cute. Try to quit and see how tough it is. You're building an alcohol depency that will ruin your life. So many less dumb ways to fix trouble sleeping. You're 21 you should understand how dangerous what you're doing is

It's normal to me. Nothing wrong with a little drinky-poo before bed in my mind. However, if you think of stopping doing it, don't worry. When I was broke, I had to stop doing it to save money, and I couldn't sleep sober the first few night, but then after a few days, I was fine and could sleep again. Of course, when I got some money on hand, I started doing it again.

Like others have said, this isn't something you should be doing so often. It's unhealthy and there better ways to get better sleep.

Alcohol leads to more sleep problems and you could be well on the way to alcoholism by the sound of it.

Meditation and/or cannabis would be much healthier ways to address your insomnia issues.

You might want to think about other better solutions. Start working out at the gym and you'll see at night you won't have any issues getting yourself up to sleep. Avoid alcohol, this stuff is poison.

Smoke weed too. It's fine, it takes a lot of liquor to give you problems.
