My entire life I never had any self confidence or self worth. Is this normal by any means?

    Not normal, but common. Not everyone has the privilege of learning those qualities from their environment, but you absolutely can develop them on your own.

    Our ego is most fragile in early teen years. That happens to also be when our peers do whatever they can to ruin each other's self esteem.

    I have had issues with self esteem and still do. And many people I know have had this too. But you can improve and learn.

    I sometimes wonder how much is genetic and how much comes from environmental things like parents/friends. I'm trying to build my son's confidence up.

      It's more genetic than people think, I would argue. Just the family environment your born into matters a ton and you could argue that's "genetic" or at least nature not nurture.
