Is it normal that i have a love/hate relationship with new orleans?

The jewel of the south is both a great place to be and a horrible place to be. The good points are that you will never run out of things to do or festivals to attend. Celebrities are in abundance in the quarter and ive been lucky enough to meet some of my favorite ones, like trent reznor and lenny kravitz, among others. Its definitely the most fun place ive ever been. And of course, the downside is that there is extreme poverty and crime there. You have to guard yourself carefully to avoid pickpockets and there are areas where you just dont go. The police dont give a damn about their jobs and i had one admit to me that he had seen a few people get pickpocketed and didnt bother to arrest anyone. The rent is incredibly high and the crime often spills over into the higher end neighborhoods. I decided to move out of there after i had seen my 4th dead body in 7 years. Whats your opinion of new orleans?
