I'm a white American, and I've found African Americans to be proud of their blackness and there tends to be a yearning towards their roots. I've only read your original post, and I'm getting the impression you may be from the African continent? That may explain the difference in experience.

Hells nah. Im speaking from the expirience of having an african peeps speak to me about "Oh the west is amazing!" and "My culture is crap" etc.
Im glad i never lived in africa. My ancestors did, but i never will
