Is it normal that i feel spaced out after taking any pm (nighttime) pain meds?

Every time I take a pain medicine for my headaches that I have been suffering from a lot lately, I get this spaced out feeling an hour or so later. I don't mind it. Actually, it feels pretty good. The pain is all gone and I just feel so calm and nice. I literally fall asleep in like 5 minutes or less during this feeling. And if it helps at all, I have not taken any pain medication until recently. Perhaps my body is not used to medicine (even otc meds).

They usually have something in them to help you sleep...why do you think they are specifically for night time?

You should probably read the instructions and other info before taking medication.

I am aware that pm meds have certain ingredients that would make me drowsy, but I am actually using that to my advantage. Whenever I feel a headache coming along, I actually look forward to that spacey feeling that the pills have to offer me.

So why ask if it's normal?

Because I had no idea it would have this sort of effect on me.

That's what they are supposed to do.

Oh, then I guess it's great to be normal in this case.

      • Most are alcohol based, you’re doing shots basically. Party on.

Alcohol based medication for headaches? I've never heard of that: what are they called?

          • Generic stuff for cold, flu, headache symptoms. Like Tylenol PM or similar “cure all” 5 in 1 otc meds.

I don't think that type of remedy has alcohol in it in Australia but I could be wrong. If I want alcohol I'd just have a good scotch with ice, not in a cold remedy
