Is it normal that i feel a sharp pain in my arms when get frustrated/depressed?

For nearly half a year now i have been getting sharp pains in my arms(never both at the same time) when i either study for a test and i get frustrated from not understanding the topic, or i think depressing thoughts. It usually last for 10 sec. to 30 sec. The pain makes me wanting to smash things to ease the pain, but i never do it. It often happens in the evening when i sit by myself and think about things i could have done different. The thoughts is often about my "forever alone" situation, about that i want a loving relationship, but my extreme shyness is the reason for my lonelyness. I just want to know what the medical cause is, and if it is a normal condition for a teen. I suspect depression and stress, i have couldn't find any similar conditions online. I want to get rid of it, since it is a really painful experience both physically and mentally. Sorry if there are any spelling errors, i'm Norwegian. If it matters, i'm male.

Is It Normal?

  • Wow, I thought I was the only one who gets this! When I have really sad/depressed thoughts, I get a sharp twinge down my left arm for a little while. Since it has been happening for years it doesn't bother me and I don't ever do anything about it. I think the best thing to do is just accept the feeling as a physical manifestation of your emotions and let it pass.

  • I think you need to seek professional medical help.

Is there a DOCTOR in the house?

  • Ok, I'm going to meassure my blood sugar soon to test for hypoglycemia. It might be that which makes me feel depressed, but it still doesn't explain the arm-thing. It might just be my built-up anger over the years which is trying to break loose.

  • It could be some form of anxiety. You should do some research on it. I know when I think about depressing things I get a dull ache in my arms and sometimes my chest.
Either way, you need to see a doctor about it. They can refer you to someone who can help you.
