Is it normal that i don't understand the appeal of certain hunting weapons?

I couldn't fit the full title I wanted: "is it normal that I don't understand the appeal of sophisticated "primitive" weapons?"

I am talking about compound bows and modern muzzle loaders. When I go hunting with a bow, it is with a wooden bow of my own make, and it is to practice my survival skills and to have a "primitive challenge". Having a heavy compound bow with all of it's cams and pulleys and sights defeats the purpose of using a bow in the first place. They are not even that much better than traditional bows in terms of maximum range, provided one actually practices.

And with muzzle loaders, I could understand using an actual antique musket or a good replica, in which case it would be like hunting with a genuine "piece of history", but I don't understand modern muzzle loaders that have synthetic stocks, stainless barrels with micro-groove rifling, and use modern powders and bullet designs. It is for all practical purposes a modern rifle with the added annoyance of having to load from the muzzle. What's the point?

If I'm just going out to bring home some game, I bring my 12GA or my .308. If I'm going to use a primitive weapon, I want the real thing. Is this normal?

I hunt with a bow. A "curve bow". At least that's what my dad said they are called. They are a glossy wooden simple bow. No scope or lights or pullies. It is also decorated with feathers and fur. I told him I dont want a "high tech" bow. You should check one out sometime.

well, maybe they like the added challenge. That,. and they have separate hunting laws for black powder rifles and bows.

With a bow, you can hunt from september to december.
