Sounds like self-delusion to me. Rationalising the seemingly irrational.
It's often a way of trying to understand something that appears without explanation, which is a coping mechanism, but can be dangerous when taken to extremes e.g. "I had a dream I fell off my bike, and the next day I fell off my bike... So it must have been a premonition, I must be a prophet and our futures must be preordained!"
However, if you're aware that you're inventing these excuses, you must not entirely believe your own bullshit. Which is good.
