Is it normal that i despise religious people after what i heard a preacher say?

Years ago I was in training to drive a semi truck. While over the road, we came across a gruesome accident which involved a family with two small girls. Everyone I n the car was killed and it still makes me shudder to think about it. My trainer was a preacher who was very adamant about living by the book.

This is the part that really got to me: the first thing I said was 'oh my god!!!', which to me is a normal reaction. His first words were 'I hope they were right with the lord" in a very condescending and devil may care tone. He may as well have said 'hope these kids are good or they are gonna burn for eternity'. His demeanor at this sight disgusted me and turned me against religion permanently. Anyone else feel the same way?

The message in any religion is supposed to be love, however, it has been so convoluted and twisted over the years as a control mechanism with the biggest hypocaracy I've ever seen. Keep your genuine good heart and just ignore the b.s., everyone seams to have their own agenda.

So if you believe there is one it's also your opinion. And your point is?

Christianity is a diverse religion. Something a Baptist believes may be the total opposite of a Pentecostal. While I understand that that preacher was rude to say the least, don't base millions of people off of one bad person.

    • Rude is not the word for it. Psychopathically heartless is more like it. Downright disturbing.

These people are being brainwashed by their religion. I hope that one day they'll realise this and leave.

  • It wasn't concern about their welfare. It was heartless disregard for human life in the name of "the lord". The way he said it was very disturbing, as though if they weren't right with god, then they are screwed, without any emotion or feeling for the family.

His comment would make me feel the same way. I don't believe in God at all, so it seems he is worried about make believe stuff and completely ignoring the terrible thing that just occurred.

But I've learned that I can't feel this way because such a large percentage of the population does believe in God. I decided a long time ago to just avoid the subject, never admit to my friends or family my true feelings, and understand that I'm either ahead of the majority of people, or there are a lot of other people just going with the flow as well.

It's normal to exclaim, "oh my God", when you see something dramatic. Also your teacher sounds like a stupid fundamentalist preacher. Not all people of faith are like your asshole teacher. Just keep focused on learning your stuff, and remember this too shall pass.

Only about people who think it is normal to say "oh my God".

Some preachers can be downright arrogant and nasty while others can be incredibly enlightening. God creation and the universe is an incredible thing, don't let one sick-minded preachers comments ruin religion for you

I can see where you got upset. Their relationship with God is between them and well God. I am sort of religious and last time I saw a wreck I prayed for them and their families and left it at that.

That was inappropriate for the situation however he could have been in shock and just said whatever. I also assure you while jerky religious people have loud voices they are not the majority so don't let one person ruin a lot of good that is happening around.

No one knows Gods plan for anyone nor do we know the lives of strangers. A Christians job is to let others see us live how Jesus would have us live and share the word. Past that is completely between that person and God.

That being said one of our beliefs is without being saved that is asking God for forgiveness of our sins and to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior you are damned to pay for your sins. It doesn't matter how good someone lives without that aspect of your life your still owe that sin debt. That includes someone who goes to church all the time. Without being saved they're damned.

I feel like I'm rambling. If you want to talk more I'll post my email.
