Is it normal that i denied my trump-supporting father a proper burial

I denied my Trump-supporting father a proper burial.

My Trump-supporting father died on 10/18/2020. I was the estate executor, so I had him cremated against his wishes. I donated 1/3 of the estate to planned parenthood. His ashes are now sitting in the garage, waiting for garbage day.

Seeing this post standing at 56 comments (excluding mine,) I'm convinced it's mission accomplished for OP.

If they can keep this up, they might as well get extra benefit from writing a book titled THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO WRITING A TROLL POST THAT ATTRACTS COMMENTS LIKE MOTHS TO A LAMP.

Into an asshole? I think they already surpassed asshole. More like evil bastard. Why evil? Because they went out of their way to disgrace the burial requests of their own father... because of politics that half of the country share.

Hopefully your family does the same for you.

I’d rather be dead than mistreat others, especially my own family, because of political disagreements.

You’re going to wake up from a nightmare one day regretting what you did, realizing you can’t take this back.

Edit: you could be a troll with the hopes of making liberals look bad. Either way you’re garbage.

It's possible, but I'm rather inclined to believe that it's just a troll trying to trigger people in order to start some shit. I tend to believe if the OP were more than just another troll trying to get everyone's proverbial goat that the post would be about more than just politics.

Well, Trump doesn’t have the best character, but he’s 1000s of times better than yours. The fact that you’d deny humanity to a loved one just because of his political views is what’s wrong with America. To be honest, this behavior is more practiced by the Left.

You answer the question of “why would any sensible American vote for people who think like you?”

I don't agree with all the name calling however much I may agree with them.
You asked a question, I hope you are just a troll, but if not you just proved your dad right.
You could care less about other people and what they want or care about.
It's all about you and the hate you build up towards someone who doesn't agree with you. You're everything you say you saw in Trump. Sometimes I think that is why the left hated Trump and his supporters. They saw themselves.

    • LloydAsher

I see the left projecting everything they hate about trump supporters to trump supporters. Saying they are facists... by implementing fascistic policies towards their opponent's political party. If the DC riot was the only riot out there what about Portland? Seattle? Minneapolis? Kenosha? And all the other cities to suffer casualties and losses to random buildings. But the one time the right riots and causes damage exclusively to the institution that their anger stems from is somehow an insurrection. When any rational person knows that it's impossible to do a coup like that. They weren't even armed. What can a coup do if they were unarmed?

Was your dad auctually a bad dad? I have a narssist dad and an abusive bipolar mom and have attachement problems and panic attacks now. But if your parents were overall good parents and you are doing this over a political dispute than honestly you are an asshole. Unless the dispute was "raping kids" or something. Your argument makes no sense.

Normal, well maybe not normal but close for the far lefters. Maybe for the far right wing as well but I haven't met as many of them.
I have seen families split and not talk to each other again. I've seen families that were living together move out or kick part of their family out because of political views.
Mostly if not all, have been the far left that just let their political views effect all aspects of their life. If you don't agree, 'then I don't like you or worse there is no place for you in my world.'

Your dad made the mistake of not seeing this in you. He evidently didn't let politics effect his opinion of you or he would have changed his will and executor.
    Sad deal for him.

One day you may realize politics and politicians are nothing more than professional used car salespeople. They'll say anything to get the sale.

Family, agree or disagree they are 10 times more important than anything else in life or death.

So you trust someone who's a proven habitual liar, repeat bankrupt, serial adulterer, narcissistic fantasist and constant golf-cheat more than you trust your own father? You have my sympathy, since I feel sorry for anyone who grew up with a father whose personal qualities fell below that abysmal standard.

However, I've gotta say that I do trust Trump more than Jesus. But then I also trust Trump more than Thor, Zeus, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

Giving that an old style funeral and burial can easily cost 5 figures... The cremation is understandable.

I also note that I do not believe that Donald Trump would have paid anything for more than that for anyone who he had even the most minor disagreement with (I'm not even sure he would pay for the cremation as it appears to me that he works to destroy anyone who disagrees with him). So I can at least see some poetic justice in the concept that his final affairs are dealt with as per the beliefs and actions of whom he supported.

You are the executor and that gives you some rights. In my case I followed my parents wishes and was able to get enough funding from family members to pay for a grave and a small headstone to bury both sets of ashes in the same grave.

I would ask you to reconsider on his ashes.

I suggest that you contact other family members and ask them if they would like to spread the ashes somewhere... I'm guessing that you fill find people interested in that...

Funerals and burials are about other people's memories and feelings - not just your own.

Others in the family will appreciate you more if you give them a chance to spread the ashes... Please do it for them.

I wish you well with this...

Try the Happyland sets? You can use the characters to do Trump role play and it doesn't always have to be immoral!

Alternatively, how about occasional playdates? DS loves having a friend over to play so he can run around being a fireman or whatever. Actually I find it is less work than when I just have my own 2 as they amuse each other so much more. If the other Mum comes too then you get a chance for gossip - and if she is a friend then she may watch them for 15 minutes while you get some chores done - as long as you do the same for her next time!

If your father being a member of the Trump cult was the only problem you had with him, that seems a bit extreme. But I suspect that was far from the only point of contention between you and him. Not all Trump supporters are assholes, but most assholes admire and identify with authoritarian assholes like Trump.

Cremation is a legal method of disposing of a body; it's not like you concealed his death from the authorities and fed his body to pigs or something. The money from his estate was legally yours to do with as you pleased. Giving a significant part of it to a charity which assists people in need was a generous move on your part, and if it helps you reach closure, so much the better.

I wasn’t a huge Trump supporter but to say they were all assholes is a bit arrogant. Even if his father’s only offense was being part of cult throwing out his ashes isn’t remotely justifiable.

      • Boojum

Saying you weren't "a huge Trump supporter" implies you supported him to some degree.

I very clearly did _not_ say that I believe all Trump supporters are assholes. You claiming that I did means you fit neatly into the stereotype of Trump supporters being - to put it politely - intellectually challenged. But your reaction is understandable, since those on the political right cherish the belief that they're constantly under attack. (The down-votes on my response from Trumpy snowflakes is another example of this.)

As far the ashes are concerned, who - apart from the OP and his family - gives a damn what the OP does with them? His father definitely doesn't.
