Is it normal that i cant hear a word people are saying when theres loud music?

For some reason, when im at a party or something and loud music is playing, when im trying to listen to someone, i cant hear anything they are saying but everyone else seems to hear them perfectly. I dont think i have any hearing problems. This is extremely annoying because i have no idea what they are talking about. WTF is going on?

    Its completely normal I have the same problem but sometimes I can here only part of what they are sayin. I mean how could you hear anyone when music is blarin in your ears!?

    This is my hearing problem. I can't filter background noise out very well and loud music makes it worse. Ear plugs at shows help. Usually I just stare blankly, laugh, and tell them I can't hear them as I move in closer and ask them to repeat it. Never underestimate the power of a nod and a smile. Lip reading is useful too.

    Why would you be able to hear some one while music is blaring in your ears?
