Is it normal that i can't breathe when aware of my breathing

When I'm wearing headphones and the music is so loud that I can't hear myself breathe I start to have difficulty breathing and feel as though I'm suffocating. Also, when I'm at the dentist's office and they have me tilt my head back and "open wide", I feel as though I'm no getting any air and it takes a lot of self-control to keep from panicking.

  • OMG lol me too. Breathing is so natural and involuntary. I'm so good at it I do it in my sleep. But when I think about how much energy is actually put into filling your lungs back up with air after exhaling it seems to become a chore and I have to work at it just to survive. I eventually forget and I can breathe again. I'm not sure if it's normal though.
