Is it normal that i can hear the electricity in a t.v ?

I can sense that a tv is on even if it's muted and I am in another room , I can sense/ hear the electricity.

Is It Normal?

    • The noise produced by old TVs is Usually high frequencies, not low ones. probably > 17 kHz

  • Yeah that is normal. It's got a lot of static in/on the screen, all of that friction creates a buzz or hum. Sometimes even this high pitched noise deep inside my ear drum. Sometimes its the tv, sometimes its just my ear. Haha. Your normal..

  • I get this too. It drive me crazy because my ears are so sensitive. This is the reason I have no clocks in my house.

  • It happens especially with older TVs (CRT/Tube Type). You may stop hearing it as your high frequency hearing deteriorates with age, or if you upgrade your TV.
    I can hear it from some other electrical devices too, but usually so soft and constant that I don't normally take notice.

    I do believe that this question was asked here before.

  • I hate those pitched up noise... some people don't even recognise that but it really bothers me... only happens on old TVs though! Just buy a Plasma TV =P
