IQ is a fairly normalized scale based upon average intelligence of people. 120+ is only 2.5% of the population.
We'd die out pretty quickly.
That aside, studies have shown that higher IQ parents tend to raise very slightly higher IQ children. I don't believe this was genetically based but was more a function of how much and the quality of attention the parents were able to provide. More adults around providing stimulation to a child from a young age is legitimately good for the intelligence of that child, both cognitive and social.
Just because you have a high IQ does not mean you will posess the patience, stamina, social skills, or even common sense required to be a good parent.
High IQ does not always equal real world intelligence ethier as I know several people with above average IQs who lack self-control and the ability to prioritise and concentrate.
No. You can have very intelligent offspring borne from people who have be rated with a poor intelligence. There are many hits and misses to your beliefs. If this is your way of helping to control Earth's gargantuan population then, there are much better ways of dealing with the problem.
I don't think it's a horribly bad idea.
But I'd rather propose a "parental licence". An impartial group of judges would decide if a person is capable of being a parent. Because seriously, some people just should never ever be allowed to reproduce.
Although I'm a staunch proponent of eugenics, I consider your logic to be inherently faulty, as IQ is only one of many factors of overall human worth. It's very possible to have a particularly high IQ and be irredeemably stupid in other ways.
who are you to judge other people.
Just because they may not have a high IQ doesn't mean they will make bad parents.
1. Intelligence has no effect on how a person will behave or conduct themselves. There are many intelligent serial killers ect, ect.
2. Two smart people breeding does not guarantee a smart child.
3. Many intelligent people have alot of control in the world, so they must cause many of its problems.
I'm one smart cat, but I know a whole lot of morons who would (and have) made better parents than me.
I think only beautiful people should breed and I'm ugly. Being ugly was such terrible suffering that I don't want to pass on the ugly gene.
I agree with what True said. You might have a high IQ but it does not mean you have skills in every area. The smartest kid in school has 0 common sense so are worthless as parents.
Now if we are basing this on money bracket I think this is more reasonable. I think only wealthy people should have children. That way the child gets everything they need from mommy and daddy, and they do not have to worry about being beaten up by other children for being poor since they all have parents with the same amount of money. So its better for them socially, esteem wise, physically and mentally.
Uhm, I partly agree with you, but I partly disagree too. I believe that anyone should be able to have children, but even if they have a high IQ, they may still be able to neglect the child/treat them badly. But then, if they did have a high IQ, they may be able to look after their children better, or they may be able to teach them more stuff than the average parent would be able to. I dunno, but eiter way, my opinion is: If people are gonna have kids, then they should look after them, care for them properly.
That would solve many of the world's problems.
Unfortunately, it would be impossible to enforce.
One of the huge problems of the world is that the dumb people are the ones breeding like rabbits, while the smart people are only having one or two children if any.
