Is it normal that i absolutely despise rap music?

Rap rhymes with crap and it's exactly what it is.

There's good and bad in all genres of music.

  • Well you're free to have that opinion but I don't agree. There's some great rap music out there.

Like Murun says, I'm sure whatever genre of music you like, there's some bands/artists within the genre you DON'T like, right?
Rap's the same way. Rap is also exploited by the media. They purposefully put the "money, pussy, weed" rappers to the forefront of the genre. If you only hear rap from the popular media, then, yes, you're bound to hate rap. The rappers that are advertised heavily nowadays are trash and their music is beyond trash.
This all being said, there is some really, really good rap. I'm a little biased--it's my favorite genre--but if you can look beyond the outer crust there is some deeply meaningful artists that spin amazing stories out there to this day; Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Joey Bada$$, Logic, Little Simz, Aesop Rock, Isaiah Rashad, Earl Sweatshirt, just off the top of my head.
Stay away from radio rap, it's garbage. Artistry doesn't get the headlines.

Hmm.. Just searched a random track of each on youtube... Earl S, and Isaiah R. both good. The rest a bit too bling for me. Cheers anyway!

Everybody has music preference and that is totally normal. Not all rap is the same however. I would recommend listening to Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar if you want something less shallow than typical rap.

Hey, everyone can have different opinions. No need to ask anyone, as you surely have a personal music taste of your own. Personally, I listen to folk, heavy metal, rock and sometimes EDM.

I still listen to Led Zeppelin, Black sabbath (Ozzy era) odd bits of Deep Purple and suchlike, but there's a whole world of many types of music out there to discover. I bet you could find some hip-hop that would get you going. Ease yourself in with Beck or something!
      :o)

Hip hop that I'd like? I truly don't think so. I'll stick with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, UFO, Van Halen, Michael Schenker, Scorpions, Nightwish, Therion, Morbid Angel...........and Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath (Ozzy and R.J. Dio eras were both cool - and Ozzy's solo material, (especially with Randy Rhoads) Deep Purple (and Rainbow) are all cool...
