Is it normal that having an orgasm is the only thing that makes me feel real?

First off, I AM NOT A GUY. People always comment on my sex questions that I'm just some troll who is pretending to be a girl. That isn't true, I am a girl. I'm 19. I'm 5'3. I have brown hair and blue eyes. That being said, I have a really weird question (please be honest in your answers). I suffer from dissociation (look up depersonalization and/or derealization if you don't know what that is). I suspect I was molested as a very young child but I don't remember for sure. I masturbate frequently, and when I orgasm, I feel real for a split second. I feel present, like I'm not detached, like I can see clearly. It fades immediately but it is a nice break from the dissociation. I was wondering, is it normal or unusual that the only time I feel real is when I'm orgasming? Please be brutally honest, I want to know the truth.

  • I suspect I have had a similar issue. Maybe I have just gotten so used to it by now that I don't really think about it. But ever since about 7th grade for me (a lot of changes in my life at that time), my life has had sort of an almost dream like quality to it. I rarely feel super present in the moment.

    I have struggled for years to fully describe it. The best way I can think of at the moment is kind of like there is always some background noise going on in my head such that I am not really focusing or experiencing what is around me, I see everything in life, I hear everything, I feel everything... but I don't feel 100% "there". It's been really hard for me to describe to other people, making it pretty frustrating.

    I can't really relate on the orgasm part, but I would guess that it's because your mind is distracted from everything you normally think about and maybe for just a little bit, your mind lets its guard down and you just experience the moment around you. Like a little moment of clarity. For me I sometimes get that moment of clarity with other things, but I could see how an orgasm could do it, too.

      • I'm sorry I don't think there is a easy answer and unfortunately this place will give you alot or weird or unrealistic replies. This sounds like a serious issue so I would suggest speaking with a mental health professional. I'm sorry your experiencing this. Good luck.
