Well, usually when I was around black men who talked that way, I would just ask to change the subject and we would end up getting along fine. It's a habit, they have grown accustomed to looking for racism in all and everything. They surely didn't hate me enough, as a white man, to not have a good conversation with me anyway.
I see it much as feminists who have grown the habit of seeing sexism everywhere. Sometimes it's unwarranted but women's rights would have never advanced so much without that attitude.
