Is it normal that any mention of drugs makes me uncomfortable?

When people start to talk about their drug use it makes me uncomfortable because I think everyone thinks it's normal. Anywhere from people talking about their old cocaine habits to dropping acid, or just misusing pills like xanax or something brings me discomfort, although everyone is usually none-the-wiser to my feelings about it. Do other people ever feel this way or did I just take the "say no to drugs" message in elementary too seriously?

I've never felt inclined to do drugs, but I have good friends who are former drug users. It doesn't make me look down on them.

I have friends who smoke pot. I have never wanted to, but I don't look down on them for doing it. It's just pot, who cares?

Your wording was a touch ambiguous - at first read I thought you were saying you feel uncomfortable with people talking about their former use of drugs...but on second read through I wasn't so sure if you meant current or past.

Idk exactly how I'd feel about current heavy drug use in a friend, but I know my primary concern would be their well being.

I would feel exactly the same. The question is not whether it's normal, but whether it's right. Misusing drugs harms people. Cocaine is dangerous to the user and its trade fuels an international crime network. It's healthy to feel uncomfortable about people treating this as normal.

I seen what drugs can do to someone. It’s horrible. With that being said you’re comfort level doesn’t really matter. If you don’t like drugs don’t do them. What they put in their bodies has nothing to do with you. Most of the drugs laws are a joke and the war on drugs was built on racism.

It depends on the drug. Talking about tea and weed doesn't bother me. Hearing about people sniffing and shooting up does make me uncomfortable though.

I tend to be the same way.
I am not into drugs. I do not want to be around it or even hear about it.

Part of the problem with drug users is they sometimes want to get others involved either by doing it around the non-user, start asking for money, trying to get you to ask your doctor for whatever drug they are on, etc.
Yeah, someone i know who is hooked on prescription meds was trying to get me to ask my doctor for a script.

It is kind of like some people's view on political matters like gay rights - some people just do not want to so much as hear about it cause they just hate it.

I don't think it's a big deal to mention drugs in passing. I used to do loads of drugs when I was young though so maybe that's coloured my view of this lol.

There are exceptions of course - I wouldn't mention it infront of your granny, to any colleagues, during church etc. It isn't always appropriate but I think in casual conversation amongst friends there is no reason for it to make you uncomfortable.

yes I feel the same. but i think it was because it's almost seen like a social status thing to some people. nowadays they act like there's something wrong with you if you don't do drugs.
