No it's not normal that you find real people unatractive

Well if you say "unrealisticly high expectation" that means you find the majourity of regular people unatractive. Either I dident understand what you meant or you don't understand what I meant.

Unrealistically high? Maybe in the looks department but not anywhere else. Almost every mainstream anime female character has the personality of a paper bag.

Take Sakura from Naruto. She was completely useless until Shippuden and spent all the episodes screaming "Sassukkeeee!!" Every 5 seconds. Misa Misa from Death Note - a right pain in the ass with a weird obsession with the main character. Tea/Anzu from YuGiOh, USELESS character who was literally only there to be an on/off love interest. That's it. She did nothing to serve the plot whatsoever.

    I could go on.

To be fair, all the females you mentioned are teenagers.

I'm not the OP, by the way.

i think the OP means Physically, and your talking about lame female anime roles. there are plenty of good female characters with depth to them.

But there are always this vapid, pretty to look at but no personality characters of both genders so people can envision themself in that role.

Look at the dumb Twilight books, the "bella" character is basically a hollow shell so girls can pretend that vampire and werewolf male models are fighting over them and swoon.

True but they're pretty rare at least in Shonen anime. Only ones I can think of is maybe Nami or Robin from One Piece. They were decent.

Yeah, that's probably the reason for it. An example of a male one could be the main character in School Days. He was pretty much personality-less, though most girls seemed to be as well (uh, until the ending that is).

OP, save yourself for your pure 2D waifu. Do not let the 3DPDs sway you from your true course.

    Alternatively, you could go outside.

i feel like all media gives unrealistic expectations of the opposite sex porn, tv, movies, etc. it also affects the way a lot of people view themselves both physically and mentally

What about video games? You know the ones that will have the women in skimpy armour with their gigantic breasts practically popping out of their clothing, while it is being magically supported on a skinny frame. How do they expect people to go into battle like that?!
