I would say that if a man is being abused by his significant other, he should do what he can to make sure he doesn't get hurt. He should not retaliate by trying to beat the crap out of her though. Do enough to get out the situation and perhaps call the police.

So a man does not have the right to retaliate and defend himself physically if he is being attacked/abused [during the event] by a woman.
He should run or call the police.
