I had an great aunt sort of like that. Actually, I think she was gay but not out of the closet (not accepted by her generation). She joined a convent, served in the military, worked as a barber and when she was dying of a stroke and the doctor addressed her "Mrs.", she quickly corrected him saying, "It's Ms. ____. I've never been married and I've NEVER had sex!". The whole family roared with laughter because even in the state she was in, she still had her feisty spirit.
But anyway, I don't think your in-law is going to have much luck with that... but you never know! Stranger things have happened.
