Is it normal people get catfished still

Its somewhat understandable with old people because they didnt grow up with tech. But young people getting catfished is dumb and honestly they had it coming.
Nowadays you can videocall people and everything.
Even I who have serious phobia of talking on the phone and over video would do so if I got in touch with someone online and things seemed to be going really well. I'd demand to see they're real and take no excuses. Then its easier to just move on as its literally just some stranger online. You can also as an alternative ask the other person to send a selfie holding up a sign or something or use snapchat with which you have to take a picture in the moment and if someone sends an image they had saved to their phone its obvious as it shows up in the chatbox instead of as a new photo notification.

There will always be fools who are completely lacking in common sense. There will always be people who allow wishful thinking to overpower their healthy scepticism. And there will always be assholes who exploit them.

My family is thinking of cutting off ties with my grandma (on my mother's side) because shes keeps on falling for extremely obvious financial traps. Shes too sane to lock up in a retirement community so we are at an impasse when she makes objectively retarded decisions.

By objectively retarded decisions I would compare her decision making processes to Michael Scott from the office.

She doesnt have dementia shes just severely stupid and naive for her age. Shes always been kinda like this. She is functional enough to feed, bathe, and recive her social security and retirement. She just makes so many poor decisions that she is actively alienating my mother. That's why shes getting no support.

I was once catfished but I later learnt the hard way, I had to learn that people will fool you into anything, luckily I didn't give the prick money after my friends finding out they were like " Oh my god I am so sorry that this happened to you ", catfishing itself is like asking yourself " Can you actually trust that person? ". Nowadays I meet people in real life because I can't trust people on the internet anymore.

(One of my old posts talking about it: https://www.isitnormal.com/post/i-feel-sad-because-i-ve-later-known-that-i-ve-been-catfished-294773 )

Someone tried to catfish me way back in 2005 before the TV show and before it was a big thing. It was obvious, her top 8 was all my close friends but no one had met her in person. She was too good to be true. She started asking for nudes. I reported the account to myspace it got deleted. I had somehow found the pictures she was using on some porn site from a cam model. It had to have been someone from town doing it.
