Is it normal people constantly ask me "hows it going?"

In class, I'll just be sitting down, and some person (who I don't know) will just look at me and ask "hows it going?" This happens constantly, and it feels like their talking to me like I'm autistic (pretty sure I'm not).

Are you sure you're not on the spectrum? Taking banal pleasantries literally is something that autistic people do.

"How's it going?" is just a bit of social grease. When greeting a complete stranger, you might say "Hi," or "Good morning," or something equally impersonal, but asking about someone's welfare can be an acknowledgement that there's some sort of minimal connection between you. It's not actually an invitation to give them a report on the state of your physical and mental health and your recent personal history.

It's also possible that the people who say this do it out of habit, or because they're generally friendly (or want to appear so).

Bottom line is that you're over-analysing and fretting about something that matters not a whit.

So when they ask you, then you ask them "how's what going?" Or you can just tell them you are about to go postal on the next person that asks how's it going".

Or you can say "Oh, I didn't tell you ? I guess it's none your DAMN business then huh ?" But seriously like Rose said be nice, smile and say something nice and polite and go on with your day. The world these days is So harsh and unwilling to just try to be nice all day everyday 3 65 days a year, except 366 on leap year.

I respond by simply saying, "Hi". It's a bit of a brush back, but it courteously shows my introverted nature as well as willingness to respond if a matter of importance is present.

I dunno, if someone says, "hey, how's it going?"

I usually smile, nod, then say, "what's up?"

I don't see this as being that complicated, but it probably depends on whether, or not one is neurotypical, and where on the spectrum one might be perhaps. Don't get me wrong I have my awkward moments. Even for a neurotypical person the thing about human interaction is that it gets better, and easier with practice.
