Is it normal or healthy to make rules just to keep your partner from cheating?

I see so many people who don't allow their partner to hang out with the opposite sex and things like that. Maybe I'm just naive but if I was ever in a relationship where I had to actively monitor someone just to keep them from cheating then I wouldn't? I would never go out of my way to make rules for some guy, I'm not a babysitter, if he can't be faithful on his own, then bye.

Is It Normal?

  • I completely agree with you! If someone has to make up all those rules for their partner, they probably have a trust problem.

  • I'm with you 100%. If someone cheats, or even wants to, then they're gone in 60 seconds. I wouldn't lift a finger to try to prevent a cheater from cheating, either.
I would ask them to kindly depart swiftly enough so that the door didn't hit them in the ass as they left. No discussion, no second chances. It's not like someone could possibly have a good excuse for cheating, is there?

      • Every time someone has pointed a gun at me, I think it would have been pretty damn hard to get an erection.

        I don't know maybe that's just because I'm 97, though.
Plus, you know. I'm a ballsack (see my profile pic)

        • The sailor sure has lots of friends. I shouldn't find your bullying so funny, but I do. By the way, are you CountessDouche?

          • Bullying?!

            & hahahahaha, no, I'm afraid I'm not.
            I'm the wrinkly ballsack sailor.
            Why do you ask?

            • I have been able to, by a simple process of elimination, conclude that CountessDouche is likely to be behind the wrinkly ballsack appearing all over IIN, and I was just wondering if my hunch is correct :)

          • OK, let me rephrase. If there is a gun pointed at me and I know it, sex is going to be the last thing on my mind.

  • um, when i was "friends" with my gf i wanted have sex with her. how many guy friends do you think she has that want to have sex with her? or any woman for that matter. because guys are opportunists when it comes to sex, (most of them anyway) wouldn't turn down a chance to sleep with my gf especially if she goes to them for a shoulder to cry on when im being a jerk. and i am a jerk sometimes, but my woman doesnt go crying to other men about me. difference between girls and women.

  • Normal to me. Would take years to earn my trust. In my experience most women are whores.

  • People who make rules for their spouse of whom they can hang around with or not are either control freaks or paranoid. Either way, it's unhealthy and not jealousy.

  • I dislike when my boyfriend hangs with females, sue me.

We have, however, agreed that there is a huge difference between hanging out with friends or just chatting up random people of the opposite sex and meeting them out on a coffee.

  • The people that do make those kinds of rules shouldn't even be dating.
