Is it normal not to want a credit card?

In part, it is because I work part-time and worry about spending. Though I only plan on using the card once or twice a month at the gas station or so.

And I don't want to wind up in debt, though I am the one to control that factor.

They just seem stressful to me.

I understand, but it's a little irrational. You won't be able to pay out of pocket for the rest of your life (I'm assuming you're young).

You will need large appliances, a car, a house. So it's important to get one even if you barely use it. Just to establish a good credit rating for the future, if nothing else.

If you are able to budget yourself with the credit card, then being in debt can be under control. Most people pay minimum payment instead of paying the full balance off.

It's normal to think that way, but like Morrow said it's not rational. Credit cards are an excellent way to build your credit history, which will be important when you take out a loan for a car or a house. Of course you have to use them responsibly and be disciplined in your spending. What you plan to do--use it a couple times a month for gas--is a good plan.

For years now, I've stopped using cash and use credit cards exclusively. I treat credit cards like cash--I only spend what I can afford. That way I can pay off my balance every month. And there are a lot of perks with credit cards too. I get cash back on all my purchases, it's safer from thieves, and it's no big deal to lose a credit card.

You should build some credit because you will likely need it one day. Not having it when you need it will cost you.

Credit cards are better for travelling too. Renting a car, hotels, flights...and they are safer than cash or debit cards if they get lost or stolen.

Just don't spend more than you can afford and pay it off each month.

i happen to use cash , i dont have a credit card. i dont need one , i like to use cash because it means i have money now and can plan ahead. besides if someone tried to rob me of cash they stand a 50/50 chance of me killing them and i want to try it real badly. hopefully no one sees it happen so i can get away with it. and i hope its two people just to make the odds more equal. Im probably telling to much about myself.

I don't want credit card DEBT but I use one as a debit card in places where it's more convenient and the first month is free when you repay before that.

Very sensible. Credit card debt is a huge problem for a lot of people. It's very easy to get in way too deep very fast.
