Is it normal not to remember much?

I know it's normal to not remember your childhood, but I feel as if my memories are severely lacking. Sometimes when I've felt particularly bad (I have ADHD), I don't feel connected to myself.

For example; instead of my life it's just boring movie I've watched and can't really recall the plot of it.

Time is also an issue, I still feel like it's 2012 and I'm 16. Like time just stopped and hasn't moved.

I don't know if this is an ADHD issue or something else.

I have vivid detailed memories of my childhood, going back to when I was 3 years old, and a few memories even of incidents which family tell me took place when I was 2.

But feeling like time stopped, yeah, when I was in college I felt my sophomore year was really special, and for several years after that I felt my sophomore year of college was somehow still "the present," and time was just drifting on into the future and had left "the present" behind. But after several years that feeling passed, and now to me today's present moment is "the present."

"Depersonalization can consist of a detachment within the self regarding one's mind or body, or being a detached observer of oneself. Subjects feel they have changed and that the world has become vague, dreamlike, less real, or lacking in significance. It can be a disturbing experience."

Sounds like you have this disorder.

Maybe your not living in the moment, and instead have developed a boring routine you do in your life over and over?

So it feels like nothings changed?

    Maybe?

I'm the opposite and I think it's weird. I can recall the most VIVID shit from my childhood, so specific it shocks my parents. Then I forgot why I just came down the stairs or something that was said to me 5 minutes ago.

Are you old? I am (70) and it's true that some memories from my past are clearer to me than more recent events. There's not much point in worrying about it because I don't think there's any way to change it.

        No, I'm actually 23 haha

I'm not concerned that I have Alzheimers at my age (I've always been a bit of a forgetful airhead), I'm just a bit ditzy.

Don't worry.. my memory is quite shot as well.. I don't remember much at all of my childhood.. I don't remember much of last year to be honest!!

BUT my reason is I had arthritis when I was 2 and went through bad experiences (not that I remember cause I don't) so not sure in your case if your memories are repressed or something like mine ??

    So don't worry I think it's totally normal :)
