Anything big like that will feel like a change, even if it’s a change that you want. If it’s a “bad weird” you might want to take some more time to figure out what you really want.
I wouldn’t focus on what other people say about their relationship with their identity or how they experienced their situation.
Understanding and coming to terms with your identity should be a very personal thing. So focus on what you feel and think, and don’t worry if it doesn’t “line up” with how it is for others.
