Is it normal my teacher want's me to friend request him on fb

I feel kinda weird about this, but at the same time I feel as if theres nothing to worry about because he did say "Just so I keep in touch with how you're school work is going" but I dunno, I feel as if maybe just so he can stalk my profile etc, I just don't know, what do you guys think?

  • When I was in highschool it was illegal, in college it was frowned upon but I can't remember if it was legal or not.

In my school it was normal, but I live in brazil so I think that theres must be a difference. I would say that you shouldn't add him, it seems a bit odd that he wants you to add him out of the nowhere with this strange reason, the only reason I had my teachers on facebook was because there was a facebook group of the class and students and teachers would post there, and we would add some to talk privately about grades and homework, send papers, etc.

I don't think it's normal, I requested to add my teacher's facebook for homework reasons and he kindly declined it because he believed it was frowned upon and wouldn't want people thinking he was being creepy or anything.

I mean it's 'okay' if a student asks, but when the teacher asks to add you.... it feels a bit weird

You're right to worry, his reasons are a lie, a cover up from seeming creepy, even though it still came out that way. Have you told your parents? It kind of makes you wonder what else he does to those who don't know any better. Teachers can't see how well you're doing with work on facebook. They find out by grading it when turned in. DON'T ACCEPT. Although if you do, there would be proof just how wrong he is to ask you of this, but it could also put you in danger, accepting and he might think you like him back. Best not give him the wrong idea he cooked up in that messed up brain of his.

If you have nothing to hide, add him see what happens. I mean the worst that could happen is he says or does something inappropriate, but if you are using this website chances are you've seen heard worse. Then at least you know. You wouldn't have to actually do anything!

Up to you, go with your gut. I think it's common anymore, though. As long as teach isn't after more than that..

Do not add him, there's a small chance that it's nothing but a bigger chance that it's exactly what your gut is telling you, id probably ask your parents too just so they are aware. It's a strange world. Keep yourself safe over keeping people happy. If he asks just say my mum said no. That will make him start acting professional- like he should be

They "check on your school work" at school. No reason for a grown teacher to be adding a student on facebook unless it's to give reminders. We had a Spanish teacher that would send messages saying when quizzes were and to study but they got sent to everyone not individuals. Also had a teacher that texts reminders if you wanted to be on the list but that was to remind us about cooking the next day.

If it bothers you, then don't add your teacher.

I would respectfully decline for sure. You're probably picking up on his creepy intentions which he's trying to mask.

Teachers aren't supposed to have any sort of contact with their students other then professional ones. Your teacher can see how you're doing just fine with school websites. And if you don't have school websites it's still not normal for him to ask to friend you. I don't think you should accept it

What have you got to lose by friending him? Are you worried you won't be able to resist his advances if it comes to that? Have other students "friended" him?
