  • Your child is a picky eater but this has been going on for a year?! This is crazy. Make soda a special treat and candy, something that he can only have until after he eats healthy meals. As the gypsysailor said, your son is malnourished. Does he have a doctor?

At least, he is getting protein from the meat. But, too much protein can create serious health issues, especially with the kidneys.

Give him veggies with melted cheese over them. I was a picky eater too, I hated veggies unless they were potatoes. My mother gave me carrots with melted cheese over them and I loved it! I was obsessed. I also ate broccoli with the same treatment.

Carrots are best cooked in the oven, with oil instead of water. If you just use water, the carrots come out very soft. Veggies like broccoli should be steamed on the stove top. Improperly cooked/uncooked cruciferous vegetables contain goitrogens, which cause problems for the thyroid.

Chinese food is delicious and healthy way to incorporate vegetables. The only thing I would be concerned with are the high sodium sauces the restaurant may use. You can balance this out by drinking lots of water.

    • This is terrible advice.

Don't cave to your child's unhealthy eating habits by adding tons of fat and grease to vegetables. The goal should be to have him eating healthy, not swapping one unhealthy food for another.

There is nothing healthy about Chinese food at all - or at least the Americanized version of it. Everything is deep fried and slathered in tons of oil.

      • Baby steps. She doesn't have to add oil to steam his veggies. If she does, coconut oil is better than olive oil. Olive oil is too goopy and coconut oil has many health benefits. Coconut milk is also healthy.

She doesn't have to give him Chinese Takeout. She can get a wok and make it for him at home. The traditional Chinese diet is extremely healthy, they would both benefit from trying it out.

She can substitute soda for juice. Candy for berries. Etc.
