Is it normal my dog used to attack the vacuum cleaner

This happened back when she was still alive. When we were vacuuming, she'd start biting at it and barking at it. We decided to keep her away from it, but she'd bark in the direction of the sound. When the vacuum was off, she had no problems with it. Is it normal?

Lots of dogs are scared of vacuums. Our dog was fine with them. We used to vacuum her on vets orders for her pruritis.

I'd imagine the loud noise is intimidating to some dogs. But dogs are scared of lots of odd things. We got our dog's bed because my cousins' bull arab/great dane lay down on a squeaky toy on it and was terrified of it after.

I was scared of the vacuum when I was a toddler/preschooler.

Half my dogs ignore the vacuum, half attack it. Same breed.

    Ahh alright, thanks for clarifying.

But yeah, dogs do not seem to care for vacuums. My dog doesn't like them but when I vacuum him to get rid of fur that I have cut, he doesn't seem to mind.

Lol Yeah, I wanted to clarify that so no one would tell me how to fix her fear since there's nothing I can do about it now.
      :)

Might be the most normal thing I’ve heard on the site. why don’t you ask IIN for cats to meow on your next question.

  • Guess it depends on the breed...

It's been normal for all our dogs.
Dogs hate vacuum clears, when they are on anyway.
They get furious and attack the suction.

My cats were always afraid of the vacuum and would leave the house because of the noise. I assume the dog attacked it so it would shut up...their hearing is far more sensitive than ours. Also the vacuum nozzle is serpent like and that could be stimulating as well. I suggest leaving the dog in a room to keep calm or sending her outside while you vacuum.
