Except mental illness does not automatically result in being useless and a life of 100% misery. For example, Howie Mandel has OCD but he continues to contribute to society. Many celebrities had depression and many have managed to recover. I can expand the list a lot more.

Clearly if some one is functional they aren't being a burden so thats not who we're talking about.
