Is it normal john lennon’s songs make me very sentimental?

So I’ve been a fan of the Beatles as well as John Lennon for a few years now, and there’s something about Lennon’s solo work that always makes me feel sentimental. It seems like he had a very calm and relaxing life in the 70s after the madness that was Beatlemania in the 60s. When I listen to his music and watch his music videos, it almost feels otherworldly in a way. One factoid I like to tell people is that a lot of beginnings and ends associated with happened during the beginning of a decade (born 1940, start using name Beatles in 1960, Beatles break up in 1970, dies 1980). They all seem to exist in their own little time capsule to me. (I especially love his song “Oh My Love,” it sounds very heavenly to me).

Of course, I know that he was by no means a perfect person and was actually quite mean earlier in his career. But he seemed like someone who genuinely regretted his mistakes, and sought to atone for them. And besides, I’ve heard conflicting rumors about just how abusive he really was, leading me to suspect that a lot of his misdeeds have been greatly exaggerated.

But nevertheless I really like his music and it always helps me relax. I sometimes fall asleep to it too (in a good way, not like in a boring way).

John Lennon was an obnoxious, self-obsessed asshole. He was homophobic, antisemitic and didn't hesitate to lash out, both verbally and physically, and nor did he restrain himself when a woman dared to upset him.

A few weeks after he recorded the Imagine dirge with the line about no possessions, he and his equally pretentious and self-obsessed wife moved into the very expensive Dakota building overlooking Central Park, where Yoko had a refrigerated room just to store her collection of fur coats.

Elton John (another prat, BTW) sent him a little rhyme on Lennon's fortieth birthday: "Imagine six apartments / It isn't hard to do / One is full of fur coats / The other's full of shoes."

You're obviously free to enjoy his music if that's what floats your boat and you can believe whatever you like about the man, but everything I've read about him suggests that he was a deeply unpleasant person and many people had problems coping with his crap.

95 percent of poeple are 'homophobic'. I don't think that should count against someone.

Really? I think I've met two people in my entire life and they were both gay themselves. So with my sample size that would be over 99%.

And besides, I’ve heard he was actually bisexual.

His music was one thing, but his personality was something else. He was kind of a douche, and he has committed domestic violence.
