Is it normal its hard to find a lesbian gf?

I live in New Zealand and I'm gay 24f ...don't know how to find a gf? I mean its easier with hetro couples as the guy is supposed to ask the girl out, but who asks who out when it comes to girls dating girls. No, I don't want to go pick up at a gay bar, that's just as sleavy ad going to a regular (straight bar). I have tried dating sites...but hasn't worked out. Also, I have developed crushes on friends in the past but idk if they're bi..and it'd be embarrassing asking with them saying that they're straight. What to do? How does it all work ?

I don't know about New Zealand, but I'd imagine that like Australia there are Lesbian social groups which aren't based in bars, so check out the internet.

It sounds as if you're not out with your women friends, so how do you know they're not bi or lesbian unless you let them know about yourself? Which doesn't mean making a pass at them, by the way, just telling them and see what happens.

As for "how it works", how does it work with a non sexual friend if you want to go out to a movie or dinner with them? Just ask! The first time will be the hardest.

Just keep looking :) Even though the dating websites haven't been going so well for you, I still feel like it's a good way to find a girlfriend. Because you know the women there want to date.

It's much much easier because you can't risk creep shaming, rape accusations etc.

Simply dress like a man everywhere you go. You're sure to get some action.

it's normal of course, but if you do have strong feelings toward one of your friends, then you should tell them. most of the time it isn't awkward after if the feeling isn't mutual

I suggest joining an LGBT group in your area -- if you're a student your college probably has something, or you could find a gay sports team, art group, or book club depending on your interests. Once you meet a few gay people you'll probably start to meet their friends too, since LGBT people usually have friends with common experiences, and it will widen your dating pool.
