Is it normal if i wash my hands after touching anything?

I often get dry hands especially between my fingers. I always wash my hands after opening or just touching everyday objects. I use Hand sanitizer if water and soap is not available. After touching anything in public I must use hand sanitizer or I will get really sick and maybe die. Oh I just realized I use hand sanitizer every time I touch my keyboard and mouse.

  • This isn't normal.

If you carry moisturiser with you then you can at least solve one problem. You always have to moisturise after using hand sanitiser or you get awful dry skin.

  • If you're not exposed to any germs you won't be able to build up any sort tolerance/and or immunity to said germs.

Honestly, you sound like you have really bad Obsessive Compulsive disorder.

  • A lot of people do that these days but it will dry out your skin. You need to use a drop (not much) of hand lotion to prevent dry skin.

  • You sound like my brother, with the only difference being that he doesn't believe hand sanitizer works. Your hands are going to keep getting worse. For example, during the winter, my brother's hands look like they've been sunburnt and cracked.

  • Your dry skin is going to get worse the longer you keep doing this. You need to quit using hand sanitizer so much. Coconut oil moisturizes and also kills germs. It's good for acne on the skin at the same time as it moisturizes. You can use the coconut oil that is for cooking, or spend more money on the kind that is supposed to be for your skin.

  • Sounds like OCD but that's really bad.
It's bad for your skin to wash your hands too often.
Hand sanitizer is okay, in medical fields hand sanitizer is used constantly after doing nearly anything to prevent antibiotic resistence and spreading germs between patients but washing with soap that often is strongly adviced against because your skin dries out and if it dries you get little tiny cracks that germs can get into and multiply in and this is even if you moisturise so you're actually making it worse for yourself.

  • That sounds exactly like a compulsive behavior and irrational fears. Someone else mentioned OCD. OCD is the first thing people often think of when they hear of compulsive hand-washing, but there are lots of other things that may have your behavior as a symptom or even just other causes. Either way, I would seek professional consultation, especially regarding that bit where you fear you may die if you don't use hand sanitizer often enough.
