  • It’s tinnitus, you should get a hearing test to see if they can do anything for you, which will really depend on what’s causing it. It can be permanent and untreatable but not always. I get a build up of excessive ear wax in my right ear which eventually causes tinnitus and considerably reduced hearing in that ear. I have to put drops in for 4 or 5 days, then I go see the nurse and she flushes my ear, then it’s fine again for about a year or so.

    • Tinitus is more the ringing not the hissing.

      • I get a hissing noise and more than one doctor has told me it’s tinnitus caused by the wax build up.

        • I use a paper clip opening the outter wrap kinda looks like a pistol, the the straight part i take pliers and fold about an 1/16" down at a 90 degree. Then use sandpaper or small file to smooth the little end. I use that to clean the crap wax buildup and sometimes when that instant itch comes on and you need a way to scratch it. And the rounded end is good when you want to sweep clean other parts of ear drum.
