Is it normal i wonder why i'm on earth? what is is the purpose of my existence?

What is our purpose in this world? as individuals? so we wake up and rush to work to get money so that we can eat and exist in comfort. We help out so that others that need us can exist in comfort. We take care of our families so that they can exist in comfort but after all is said and done, why are we here? What is our purpose as individuals and as a specie

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Just because a question can be asked does not mean it necessarily has an answer. In my opinion, life has no inherent meaning, and we are simply here for no greater reason than because atoms have happened to coalesce in such a way that our forms emerged.

On the other hand, even if life is inherently meaningless, we can still instill meaning into it ourselves. Find something you like doing and pursue it, not for any greater cause but because you want to.

    • I believe we're here to give praise and glory to the one and only God–the God of the heavens, the earth, the sky, and all the animals! Did you know that He created everything? He knew you even before you were born! He was there and always will be there. And our purpose on earth is to give Him all the praise and honor!!! He will always be with no matter how hard your life gets. To Him be the glory forever and ever! Amen.

      • That sounds a bit boring to be honest. We get a grand total of one life that we know of, and your omnipotent deity wants you to spend it on your knees in worship? I thought pride was supposed to be a vice?

        • Actually, God gives me a very thrilling life. I know that He will always take care of me and never leave me. He is in control of everything, so obviously I should worship Him!

  • There is no meaning, life is shit and then you die.

  • It is normal to wonder about such things, though it seems some wonder a lot more than others.

If you ask me, you are a person, a human being, descendant from a long line of organisms, that have passed on genes to you such that you can value things, you can feel emotions, and you can have an idea/a feeling of purpose/meaning. The evolution of your forefathers has made it so that you can sit here today and formulate questions about the meaning of it all. I do not think there is such a thing. I am not even sure the question makes sense.

I think that, as human beings, we have instincts that can make it feel like there are things that we are meant to do (having kids, helping out others, etc.); and that we are not meant to do them, we are rather programmed to be inclined towards doing them.

You are here now and you are probably not going to be alive for much more than a century. Why try to find some purpose or meaning to exist far beyond the time ranges of your life. Be here now and worry about things around you.

As a species? I don't know, I don't see myself as a species. I do not think that being of the same species is something that calls for some sense of community. I think I have an instinctually different way of reacting to another human being than to some other creature.

  • If you're asking what is the meaning of life, why are we here, I cannot tell you. That's something that you have to find for yourself, it differs from person to person.

For me as an individual it's about finding what I'm passionate about and doing those things. This gives me purpose and fulfillment.

As a species, my contribution to that is being/embodying the change I want to see in the world.

On a bigger note I think the human species purpose is to evolve, for civilization to continue its scientific innovations, to gain more knowledge of the world and how life here can be improved and sustained. Like I said before, all of this is simply point of view and theory and theories on this will differ from person to person regarding their beliefs and perspective of the world. It's a highly individual thing, you've got to make your own truth out of your life and meaning.

  • God simply has amnesia. Hes looking at his reflection in between two perfectly parallel mirrors, as it stretches to infinity, trying to remember who or what he is. We are all his reflections. Its our job to help him/ourselves remember.

  • Why isn't it enough to just exist? The purpose is whatever meaning you choose to attach to it.

  • The real question here is: is there Purpose?

    Some people feel yes.

    Some people feel no.

It sounds like you want to get a little spiritual.

  • Our point in existance is the same as every other organism on Earth. To live as long as possible, reproduce and ensure the continuation of the species. Whatever else you do in your time, is by the by.

  • You have asked the most important questions in the world. Thanks for doing that. Humans are not in vain on this earth.

According to Islam, Allah has created humans and jinns (creation of Allah that are created from smokeless fire) so that we worship Him and dwell in Paradise for eternity.

Allah's words can be read at quran.com

  • How can we answer that?
