It takes more than shaving a layer of skin to make leather. You need the base skin as well.

You also might wish to look and touch real skin leather to see if it matches what you expect.

Some of the major libraries in larger cities have real skin books in a restricted area (real skin leather was used for some book bindings and other things in the past - the books are rare); that you can see, handle, and read if you desire too.

Certain exclusive rare book dealers also have such books.

I've never seen or handled it myself. But, I'm told that its not what you expect.

I had a thought. What if when someone dies, they have the option of being skinned and stuffed (like some do with pets) and the remains are then cremated? Morally/ethically not wrong if the person wanted it. But should we give in to their wishes.
