Is it normal i use loud sounds to self harm?

I am autistic (HF but still have meltdowns, stim, and have special interests) and have an abusive mother. Whenever I hear her voice, my brain instantly goes into panic mode and i try to make my actions as loud as possible in order to harm myself. As I am autistic i am very sensitive to loud noises and have had several hours-long meltdowns because of them before. I'm pretty sure it's a kind of stimming where people will hurt themselves in order to stim but I don't know of anyone else who does it. Autistic folks, or people who stim in general, is this normal?

  • If you are being abused report it. Self harm doesn't solve anything.

    • I don't live with her anymore. It's just when we're talking on the phone or a voice recording/something like that. And i'm aware that self harm doesn't solve anything but it's addictive at this point.

    • i've learned to handle it pretty well by wearing ear defenders when going to loud places or eating alone so i don't hear chewing, etc.

      • It works for me. My gran used to shout abuse at me until I beat the shit out of her with a frying pan. She doesn't shout anything at me anymore now.
