I'm surprised this post doesn’t have a 100% normal rating. Socks are cheap and if your friends are lazy enough to leave them laying around your house they shouldn't expect you to keep them. You're not their maid.
Maybe you could put a cardboard box outside of your door, label it "lost and found? ...if they're really upset about you throwing their socks out.
