  • While it isn't something I'd ever think much about, maybe because I don't know many royalists, I agree with you on every single point. I'm sure she was a very good person, and she certainly sounds like the best royal we've had for a long time.

    But the third greatest Briton ever? I didn't know that poll existed, but it makes interesting reading. I wonder if the results would be the same now, after a longer time had lapsed after Diana's death?
    A lot of people might have done the same good Princess Diana did. I doubt that many would have done, but we'll never know since very few people had the same opportunities. Was the good she contributed really greater than that of someone like Charles Darwin or Isaac Newton? Or Alan Turing, who's story just as much if not more tragedy than Diana's?

    I think Diana remains so well-loved by so many people because her life has a certain tragedy and Hollywood-ready feel about it. That and the fact it was so comparatively recent. The disrespectful way she was treated by the other royals justly exposes them in a personal way we don't usually get the chance to see, and there's no denying she was a good person who did a lot more good than most people.
