IIN I think if you carry a genetic disorder you shouldn't have children?

  • You do realise some genetic disorders don't show up until after people carrying it have already had children? To give an example very close to me, My 45 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with genetic cardiomyopathy, which her father died of when she was a teenager, far too late for him to have known he had it. She has 3 children who won't know if they've inherited the gene unless they have genetic counselling, which I would hope they do before they reproduce.

I don't think it's a good idea for people to pass on genetic disorders if they know they carry them, but I wouldn't be in favour of that being enforced.
