Is it normal i sometimes wish i lived in the 1970s?

I’ve posted before about how much I love all of the content that came out then, but sometimes I worry my obsession goes too far. I find myself wishing I lived back then, when there was no internet or iPhones and people just talked to each other, when the hippie counter culture was on its last legs, when there were low budget schlocky exploitation films coming out in theaters, when heavy metal was in its infancy, and almost all of the popular music was some form of rock.

For whatever reason I’m more partial to the early 70s, but the late 70s were great too. Star Wars had just come out and the fan base wasn’t as much of a mess, but for some reason the earlier half of the decade just feels better to me.

I hate hearing about how long ago it was, I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that it was literally half a century ago already! I guess I’ll have to accept the fact that I’ll never be a part of it, and that I can just enjoy the content made then in a modern setting.

With the exception of not having the technology we do today, the 70's were great fun, easy going, people would actually communicate with each other and would not be pissed off because someone looked at them odd. That shit didnt happen. People wouldnt blame the world for the shitty life they might be living and they would NOT have to go on a really senseless shooting spree to get some sort of sympathy because they felt "disrespected". Ahh BOO-FUCKING HOO. Cry us a river. Somebody didnt say your name right or evidently cut ahead of you in line at the store. SUCK IT UP PUSS N BOOTS. Theres no guarentee of life is sposed to be fair and easy. (Sorry I got a little carried away there)

I became an adult in the 1970s. You might have problems accepting that decade was half a century ago, but I assure you that it's way beyond weird for me.

I don't look back on the seventies with any great nostalgia. It wasn't one of the happiest periods in my life, but it was also far from the worst.

About the only thing you mention that I feel some nostalgia for was the hippie era. I was born a bit too late (and I was a bit too cowardly/sensible) to have taken my stupid young life into my hands and hitched 800 miles down the coast to San Francisco, but I suppose if I'd been a few years older I might have experienced that crazy scene first-hand before it turned nasty. But then if I'd been born a few years before I was, I might have ended up taking a government-sponsored trip across the Pacific to kill random strangers - or be killed by them.

Such are the random chances of life. You're born when you're born, you live in the time you're alive, and it's best to try to make the best of your here and now. Nostalgia is actually a pretty nasty emotion. Things were never as wonderful as people like to believe they were. For everything you can list that you think you'd enjoy about the seventies, I'm sure there are at least a couple of things - quite possibly things that you've never heard of - which you'd find really annoying if you woke up tomorrow in 1972 knowing all you do now.

Iirc nostalgia comes from a Greek word that means something like “a painful memory “

I despise nostalgia. I think it's the worst feeling there is.

I remember this game I played as a kid, in my memories it plays like halo and is amazing. I found a copy again like a year ago and played it. Fuvking awful. Just pure dogshit if a game. So now I have these 2 memories of one game one amazing one bad. Fuck nostalgia man. But sometimes it's legit. But not often enough

I see where you're coming from. Music and boxing was so good back then. It must have been really exciting to live through that time. I miss the 90s growing up in Nashville before all the people started moving there and sucked the soul out of it. Its not the same place it use to be. More like a northern city now.

To be fair, the 60s seem even more exciting than the 70s.

I disagree. The 70s had better music, more drugs, exciting politics also. Also boxing in the 70s must have been out of this world exciting with Ali and Frazier and Foreman. I couldnt imagine how exciting Foreman vs Ali was in the build up. And Ali won against the odds.

The 70s seem like a pretty gloomy time period tbh. It had the chaos of the 60s, but without the optimism. The music was awesome though, except disco. The fashion and style in general was awful and cringeworthy. I'd probably rather live in the 60s.

Jarts, Apollo Racer 5 speeds, Schwinn Stingrays, and Space Food Sticks.
    I remember Libbyland frozen dinners
& Hunts pudding in aluminum cups with sharp edges.
And a nickle bag was $5.
