So bad that I get bruises. Obviously it's worse the more mistakes I make. I don't think it's causing lasting damage but I wouldn't know. I punch as hard as I can at least 5 times in rapid succession and bite as hard as I can bear until the pain is too much.

Yeah, it sounds like you're not even giving them time to heal before you do it again. I suggest not doing that if you like being able to walk.
